Skate This Art
Skate This Art is currently accepting skateboard art for its upcoming Fall show at Submission Art Space on Mission & 18th streets from October 10 – November 2, 2010. This is a fundraiser for STA so we can continue to produce great skate art events! Deadline to submit your amazing skateboard art with the application is Friday, October 1, 2010. Please contact us for more info, or if you’re also interested in volunteering with us (sponsor, donor, assist with computer, advertising, etc.). This exhibit will have two receptions, on Saturday, October 16 and Tuesday, November 2 (dia d los muertos). We will have raffles, silent auctions, spoken word, poetry, book reading, live skate art demos, and live music (Slim Jenkins on 10/16, the Cuban Cowboys on 11/2), and more!

Skate this Art 2010 – Exhibits and Events
Skate This Art had a wonderful experience participating in the Marin Art Festival on June 19 & 20, 2010, at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael, CA. We had about 87 pieces of skate art by 30 artists for display and purchase! For more info about the festival, visit MarinArtFestival.com or call 415-388-0151.
We are working out the details for our upcoming Fall show, possibly in October and hopefully in ‘la Mission’. We want more artists – that means YOU - making more skate art pieces for display and purchase, and for the receptions we hope to have live music, live painting on skateboards, spoken word, book readings, performance, auction, raffles, and .. who knows? ! Stay tuned for more details as they develop. In the meantime, get started on making your amazing skateboard art for the show!
Skate this Art Productions is pleased to announce the success of its third “Skate this Art” exhibition of skate art done by folks aged 6-91, artists, non-pro artists, skaters, non-skaters, former skaters, and just plain folks! We had 177 pieces of skateboard art, including sculpture on skateboards, 3-d art, video art! The exhibit ran from April 3-30, 2010, at Gallery 28, located in North Beach at 1228 Grant Avenue near Columbus, 94133, (415) 433-1228 (NO calls please). And this year, the exhibit benefitted the North Beach Citizens center (NBC) located at 720 Columbus, SF, CA, 94133, (415) 772-0918. When a skate art piece sold, the participating artists could choose to donate 50% or 100% to the non-profit, North Beach Citizens.
Participating artists included: Ed Hardy, Winston Smith, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Jason Norelli, Paul Norman, Jeremy Fish, Anna-Lisa Stardust van der Valk, Brandon Swinehart, and more! Signed decks by Tony Hawk, Pete Ramondetta, John Cardiel, and more items were raffled orauctioned off during receptions.
April 3, 6-9 pm, reception included: beverages, silent auction and sale of skateboard art, raffle , and poetry reading by SF poet laureate Jack Hirschman.
April 17, 6-9 pm, reception included: beverages, silent auction and sale of skate art, raffles , and five short documentaries: premieres of “Girls on Girls” (new doc on women punk music pioneers of late ’70′s – early ’80′s SF music scene) by Patrick O’Neil and “Skate this Art – Make This Art” by Geo Epsilanty; the return of “Hit the Decks” by Caleb Gatlin and “YAA Girlz and the Deadly Sparks” by Patrick O’Neil (doc about all female skate-punk clubs of SF in early ’80′s), and “DIY” by Chris Silva.
This was not a juried show. We put up the skateboard art, and then let the audience decide for themselves what they consider ‘art’! Equal opportunity art!
